“What’s your 20? Over?

“Bout the same spot, a mile so over your shoulder.”

Ah, 10-4 I got an eyeball on ya, say that’s a pretty fancy rig yer drivin’ there ain’t it.

Yeay 10-4 Good Buddy. Got Spider Mike at the back door hear, My handle’s Love Machine-

Excuse me, his handle is Pig Pen

That’s just temporary.

Well, now boys you better simmer down and back er on down, ya’ll recognize who this is? Come back?

Negatory? Who is this? This is the Duck ya ol’ bandit!

AHHHHHH, Spider Mike! It’s the Rubber Duck!!!!!

Breaker 1-9, breaker 1-9, this is the Cottonmouth to the Rubber Duck, over.

10 Roger Cottonmouth I got a copy on ya over.

What’s your 20, over.

I’m at 343 Neinebearport over. It looks like you got me an two others in yer rockin’ chair come on.

Not a bear in sight it’s all green and clean bring er on up.

Breaker 1-9 the smell is getting intense back her.

Who is this, over.

You got Spider Mike here riding the back door to Pig Pen.

My handles Love Machine.

Man, all I know is the paints pealing off my cab and the fan don’t work, so you better back off cause I’m slipping in.

Well come on cause I ain’t pullin over.

Well you aint’ about to get me behind you Pig Pen.

Moment’s later we hear,

Backem’ down, Backem’ down we got a bear in a plain brown wrapper.

___________________________________________________________________________

What in the world was all of that? Some of you who know me well may remember these lines from the movie “Convoy” a show from the late 1970’s that I watched obsessively, sometimes two or three times in a row, day after day until I could quote the movie, word for word without fail.

Still to this day, not able to even remember the last time I watched this movie – I can recall (almost word for word) the opening dialogue between the Rubber Duck, Pig Pen, Spider Mike and the Sherriff Lyle Wallace (Cottonmouth).

What does this have to do with anything? I just found it interesting one day as I realized all the un-important non-sensical things I remember from years long past.

It struck me as ironic why, if we can remember totally useless things like lines from music, lyrics of songs, one-liners that made us laugh, why don’t we remember the Scriptures and retain them in our minds with such clarity?

Something to think about – good buddy – 10-4 over and out.

I absolutely love it when I am in tune enough throughout the day to pick up on little tidbits of insight and draw comparisons using simple daily events and tie them to Biblical truths.

Late this afternoon while I was preparing to leave work, I realized that I was late in returning a video that was on loan to the company from our insurance company. So, as I made my way home I detoured slightly from my normal route and stopped by the UPS store to get this late video on its way back to the lender. (It’s noteworthy to state that I was somewhat experiencing a slightly elevated level of anxiety concerning my delinquency in this matter.)

As I arrived at the UPS store and stepped inside and the gentleman behind the counter took my package and labeled it and told me that it would be in the hands of the lender by tomorrow. I thanked him and exited the store.

Yeah, so – what’s the point? Bare with me.

Immediately, I had a great sense of relief that I had given this package over to a place that could remedy my situation and provide the needed solution to my problem. As I drove out of the parking lot I left all care for this matter behind, trusting in full confidence that UPS will handle the matter from here and taking complete assurance in their word that tomorrow, my lender will have their video returned safely to them.

Tada! My point!

That is what God asks of us! Come to Him with our troubles. Like the old hymn, “What A Friend We Have In Jesus.” – All our sins and grief’s to bear, of what peace we often forfeit, oh what needless pain we bear, all because we do not carry everything to God in prayer!”

Isn’t it amazing that I could take such immediate and complete confidence in the promise of the UPS Store to deliver my package the next day that I gave it no further thought or consideration.

Why don’t we so readily, quickly and confidently hand over our cares and concerns to Jesus and give them no more thought – trusting explicitly in the promises of His Word, without reservation.

How many times do we take our troubles to God and place them in His hand only to run back to him in a few minutes, hours or days and snatch them back from Him and try to deal with things ourselves again. That would be like me running back to the UPS Store tomorrow morning, stopping the truck that will take my package to the terminal to be transferred to the outbound truck going to Iowa and telling them that I just don’t think they can handle this without my help.

Could you imagine how the folks at UPS would react if I did that. Even more so, my meddling in their affairs would only disrupt their well trained and executed plan of action. By the time I went to all the trouble to “assist” them in delivering my package – it would have already been delivered to the lender.

Just like with God. If we keep our hands out of the way once we give Him our problems – His wisdom will produce the proper and most effective, efficient solution for our situation – but if we keep sticking our hands in and trying to “help” God we slow our own solution down.
